There's a train of thought on the political forefront that negative press actually help the candidate. This seems contrary to what many conservatives believe. Conservatives have claimed media bias since at least the 1950s, they have even nicknamed CNN the Clinton News Network.
In any event, lets consider a few different cases. First, for all the negative press and for his validated actions, Bill Clinton received strong public support during his impeachment. Richard Nixon was so beat up by the press during his impeachment that he eventually gained public support. Even George W. Bush received strong public support after the press and others came down on him before the 2000 election.
That being the case, what will cases like the NY Times going have after Senator McCain mean to his campaign. The left leaning press can't help but praise Obama and knock McCain. So, will that help McCain in the long run?
